If you're looking for a great baby music class, I love the Kindermusik program in JP. It's held at Blissful Monkey Yoga studio. Every week we do different activities, including bubbles, parachute, balls, scarves, and drums. I've been to a lot of these sort of classes, and was surprised and impressed to see the whole hour filled with instruction. Usually there are large chunks of time that babies are instructed just to "play" and "explore". While that's great, when you're paying for something I could see some parents wanting more.
The Boston Public Library at Copley opened up their new children's section a few weeks ago. It's a beautiful oasis of fun colors, toys, books, and activities for children. You still have to go through a work-in-progress hallway to the elevator to get there which sometimes has loud drills and construction that can scare little kids. Once through however, it's easy to spend hours there. Little Guy (LG) loves going up and down the few stairs to the stage where they have dress up clothes and puppets available. In a different section, there is bright moving bubbles, squares with different textures for children to touch, and magnetic balls to connect. They've restarted their story time and added other fun activities like a dance time.
A great place to hang out (for free!) when it's rainy or cold! A great place to go when the weather isn't cooperating is Mama & Me in JP. It's located a short walk from Green Street on the orange line in the Brewery Complex. From 3:30-5:00 pm during the week they have open play. It's reasonably priced ($10), especially for siblings (only $2 more), or you can buy 10 times for $80.
It has three different rooms for the kids to play in, including a small "gym". Each things are set up a little differently, and different toys are out and available. LG currently loves playing with the fake food and kitchen, but the boys I've had beforehand love running around in the gym. They also have classes available. While most are good, for the price I think only some of the classes for older kids are worth it (particularly Paint Playground and Toddler Sports). This is just a sneaky way to add a little more veggies into a little one's (or your!) diet. You can't really taste the spinach, it tastes more like a banana muffin. I've substituted 1/2 cup of pureed beets in place of the spinach before- really the base of the recipe can be used with any vegetable. Ingredients - 2 cups organic oat flour - 1/2 cup organic cane sugar - 2 tsp. baking powder - 1 TBS. apple cider vinegar - 1/2 tsp. salt - 1 tsp. cinnamon - 1/4 cup of your preferred organic oil - 3/4 cup almond milk - 1 bag of organic fresh baby spinach - 2 ripe organic bananas Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a cupcake tin with liners.
2. In a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients. 3. In a food processor, combine the oil milk and spinach first and blend. Then add the bananas and vinegar, and blend until completely pureed. 4. Add the wet mixture to a bowl and add the dry to the wet. Be careful not to over-mix! 5. Fill muffins cups and bake for 20 minutes. Let cool for at least 10 minutes. Enjoy! I've decided to get back into writing daily. My day revolves around babies, and dance, so I've decided to combine those two passions here!
